After studying filmmaking at Université de Montréal and stage art direction at the National Theatre School, André-Line Beauparlant became a prolific artistic director on more than 20 indie features, including La moitié gauche du frigo (The Left-Hand Side of the Fridge) (2000), Gaz Bar Blues (2003), Incendies (2010), Inch'allah (2012), 4 soldats (4 Soldiers) (2013).
In 2000, she directed her first feature documentary Trois princesses pour Roland (Three Princesses for Roland), which won the Best Direction Award at Hot Docs in 2002. Her next two films — Le petit Jésus (Little Jesus), winner of the Best Direction Award at Hot Docs in 2005, and Panache — won her the recognition of her peers and the filmmaking community. Pinocchio (2015) is her fourth documentary feature.
