Through a visual and narrative collage of personal testimonies, Island & Flight poetically explores the universe of contemporary travels by air.
Synopsis
Island & Flight looks at the world of aviation to capture the emotional feeling of being suspended 35 000 ft in the air, between a distant past and an uncertain future. Narratively, the film is a collage of testimonials’ discussing transit. The movie is a visual and collage of intimate moments filmed in and out of 16 airports around the world. Seated by a window seat, the viewer is taken on a emotive journey onboard this giant island in flight. The film is the last part of a trilogy about the contemporary human transition.

Dan Popa
Dan Popa is a Montreal based filmmaker, of Romanian origin, who directs and photographs his own work. He studied filmmaking at Concordia University and has worked as a freelancer in both film and design. In 2006, he started NATALI film, his own film production company. His main interest is opposing artificial environments to social interactions. His research focuses on the exploration of contradictions, both aesthetically and formally, through new cinematic approaches. His films include Midi (2008), La Métropolitaine (2010) Taxi for two (2012) and Île et Aile (2014).
