Mitchell Stafiej
Mitchell Stafiej est un réalisateur et concepteur sonore en situation de handicap qui vit et travaille à Montréal, au Québec. Atteint du diabète de type 1 depuis l’âge de 16 ans, il crée des films qui explorent le potentiel et la force politique de la juxtaposition et de la coupure – une illustration non verbale du changement social. Privilégiant les images texturées et les sons bruts, il tourne souvent ses films en 16 mm ou à l’aide de technologies lo-fi comme la Hi-8 et les téléphones portables. Il est constamment à la recherche de « l’anti-image » et tente d’élargir la notion de ce qui est « cinématographique ». Il a obtenu sa maîtrise en beaux-arts à l’Université Concordia en 2018 et enseigne actuellement la production de films, les études cinématographiques et l’histoire de l’art au Collège John Abbott
