A cross between a journalistic investigation, a sci-fi thriller, an activist documentary and a portrait of an artist in the throes of creation, this playful, biting and rigorous hybrid film exposes the reality of tax havens and their consequences.
Alice stages an eye-opening performance that combines dance, theatre and the contents of an interview with Alain Deneault, in which the philosopher astutely examines the nature and consequences of tax havens on public finances. Taking us behind the scenes of the theatrical production Hidden Paradise and evoking the precarious daily life of an artist amid the housing crisis, this film draws us into an international investigation of the offshore economy and the political machinations that sustain it. Over the course of an audacious journey, Nowhere, Everywhere moves deftly between investigative journalism, sci-fi thriller, activist documentary and realist fiction. With a dash of dark humour, this playful yet exacting hybrid work imaginatively combines and questions filmmaking’s political and artistic possibilities. In so doing, it prompts reflection and even collective action.
